Women's Football: Beresford's hat-trick keeps Brighouse Town in Cup hunt

Two from Beresford as well as Jodie Redgrave’s strike gave Town a 3-0 lead at half-time. Only two games took place in the First Division but neither of them disappointed, as Farlsey Celtic Reserves held Ossett Town to a 2-2 draw to stay top, Carly Doyle and Vicky Penney netting for Ossett. The other outing was an emphatic victory for Leeds City as they easily saw off Dewsbury Rangers 7-1 to climb up to third. A sensational title race looks set to take place in the Second Division as Lower Hopton’s 10-0 demolition of Hebden Royd United moving them top on goal difference above Middleton Athletic. Ripon City also won 3-1 against a spirited Ossett Town Reserves side who scored through Caz Topaz Omboyi, while Boroughbridge halted Skipton Town’s promotion pursuit by beating them 4-1. Tyersal remain top of the Third Division after they saw off in-form Phoenix 3-1. The League leaders will be looking over their shoulders however, with Thackley one point behind with a game in hand after they steamrolled over New Farnley 14-0.
